It continued a very successful year for Moncaster, winning no less than three titles – the NSW title adding to the Central NSW and National Golden Gloves titles.
He has tasted defeat only once in 11 fights and is now on the radar of those able to further his boxing career via Academy selection as well as training at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, PCYC coach Paul Saunders said.
“A couple of our boxers have been given the opportunity to train at the (AIS) recently and, after his performance at the NSW State Titles last week, Brad has certainly caught the attention of some people that can get him there as well,” he said.
He said he had been stepped in up in class with every fight and was really starting to hit his straps.
The win was evidence of that.
“Brad’s opponent came into the gold medal final with a lot more fights under his belt and Brad was just too strong and powerful for him, with the referee in charge putting two standing eight counts on his opponent in the first and second rounds,” Saunders said.
“Brad then kicked it up a gear late in the second round, landing a flurry of combinations and heavy blows causing the referee to step in and call a halt to proceedings giving Brad the win by way of TKO Round 2, the gold medal and the title of NSW State Heavyweight Champion for the second year in a row.
“His last few fights have ended in the same way, with Brad stopping his opponents inside the scheduled distance.”
After only stepping into the ring a couple of years ago, Moncaster has racked up an impressive list of titles.
Last year he also won both the state title and national golden gloves titles.
He and the PCYC team are now looking forward to their next outing which will be in Maitland on October 18.
“We will be keeping the team very busy for the rest of the year with tournaments in Maitland, Nyngan and Sydney on the immediate agenda,” Saunders said.
