The project will include educational facilities, student accommodation and associated infrastructure and a re-purposing of the University Department of Rural Health, which is already in the grounds of Tamworth Hospital.
Newcastle University’s facilities management director Trevor Gerdsen said five companies were invited to tender, with all having a presence in northern or regional NSW as well as experience with hospitals or educational facilities.
He forecast that the successful tenderer would be confirmed in mid-March and onsite works would commence before the end of March.
“We want to have the educational facilities finished by the end of the year and the accommodation by February, so students can move in,” Mr Gerdsen said.
The seven-hectare site for the new facility is on Johnston St between McCarthy Catholic College and the Tamworth Correctional Centre.
