The works will take place in the block of O’Connell St, between Carthage St and Rawson Ave, and will involve not only the construction of a new water main but the excavation of the roadway and relocation of a number of water connections.
Project manager Kazi Mahmud said temporary, short-term water supply and traffic movements would be likely during the construction period which was expected to last about three weeks, weather permitting. Mr Mahmud said a trench would be excavated in the roadway and that section of the road would be barricaded using mesh fencing.
“Motorists are advised to follow the traffic signs and warnings,” he said.
“Construction works will occur between 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am and 1pm on Saturdays.”
Mr Mahmud apologised on behalf of council for any inconvenience that may be caused by the works.
“We will make every attempt to ensure disruptions are minimised as much as possible,” he said.
Residents’ inquiries on the works can be directed to the council on 6767 5555.
