OPPOSITION leader Tony Abbott’s concern about independent Tony Windsor’s “town hall style meetings with the electorate” is obvious in Abbott’s letter to The Northern Daily Leader November 28.

So reassuring it is to hear Tony Windsor’s interview with Fran Kelly on Radio National on the same day. Mr Windsor talked about his
adherence to carbon pricing, important to those of us concerned with the environment, the implementation of the Gonski Report, the Murray-Darling Scheme, etc.
Having heard no questions in Parliament this past week except unsubstantiated and silly, not to mention boring questions about the PM’s legal matters and past relationships, I was satisfied to hear Mr Windsor’s lack of interest in gossip. Smear and innuendo is not his style of politicking.
Most of all I am happy to hear him say that he is standing for re-election. Straight-talking, honest politicians who have time for reflective conscience as well as effective policy are rare and we in this region have one.
