Tamworth Regional Council mayor James Treloar defeated a challenge from councillor, Diane Carter to resume duties in the region's top job.
Phil Betts will also rejoin the leadership team as deputy having been re-elected unopposed.
It was a similar story elsewhere around the region with Uralla councillor Ron Filmer also re-elected unopposed as mayor and fellow councillor Isobel Strutt taking the deputy position.
Guyra Shire Council mayor Robyn Jackson and deputy mayor Richard Burey were also re-elected unopposed. It will be Mrs Jackson's fifth term in the top seat.
Gunnedah mayor Gae Swain and deputy mayor Steven Smith were also re-elected to the top jobs at the shire's council meeting on Wednesday night.
The only major changes were in Armidale where councillor Peter Ducat replaced former mayor Brian Chetwynd after a vote last week.
Mr Ducat was elected six votes to four, against Councillor Herman Beyersdorf with councillor Bruce Whan elected as deputy mayor.
Tenterfield council elections also saw a change of staff with councillor Toby Smith elected unopposed as mayor with the incumbent Keith Pickstone opting not to stand again.
Deputy mayor John Macnish was also elected
unopposed.
