Firefighters from South Tamworth station 448 were called to the scene at 12.22pm after reports the home was alight.
They arrived just before 12.30 before getting the fire under control and conducting a search for inhabitants.
Nobody was injured in the Susanne Street blaze, with all inhabitants accounted for.
Crews remained on scene after putting the blaze out on Saturday afternoon.
A spokesperson for Fire and Rescue NSW reports the house was 50 per cent destroyed, with the other half damaged by smoke.
Firefighters couldn't determine a specific cause, but have identified that the fire started at the stove, which may have suffered an electrical fault, may have been left on, or may have had some other fault.
The fire had been burning for several hours by the time residents arrived home and reported the blaze, he said.
Paramedics from NSW Ambulance and officers from the Oxley Policy District also attended the scene of the housefire.
Firefighters left the scene at 1.39pm.
