LOCAL mayors have spoken out about the NSW government's roadmap out of lockdown that was announced earlier this month, with many showing support and hesitancy in equal measure.

With mayors around the state having met with the premier and deputy premier over the past week, it is clear local government still have some questions to be answered.
A recent meeting between the mayors and Deputy Premier John Barilaro is said to have been "heated" but productive according to Local Government NSW.
Weighing up the benefits of opening up the state and keeping regional communities with poor vaccination rates safe has been a major talking point.
Tamworth Regional Council mayor Col Murray said local government can take some confidence out of seeing dates and statistics, but ultimately everything has to be taken with a pinch of salt during COVID times.
"If you can advise me of what the statistics will be then I think you can provide some certainty, [but] nobody has got any certainty of what the circumstances are going to be" he said.
"We can only plan with the best information we have and I'm supportive of that."

Walcha Shire Council mayor Eric Noakes believes the roadmap was useful for planning, and providing further details was the right thing to do.
"It's a hard thing for the government to do to give us that roadmap but it was obviously needed to give us some certainty," he said.
Further north the mayor of Uralla Shire Council, Michael Pearce, was also positive.
He looked at the issue from a business perspective and said having a plan visible to the general public would be hugely beneficial.
"There needs to be a roadmap out because small businesses are being impacted dramatically, and I really do feel for small businesses.
