The Cowboys - who have won two straight after losing their first five game - produced a massive defensive effort, Ferguson said.
"A few of the boys reckoned it was one of our better wins," he said.
"Across the board our defence was massive ... the boys showed a fair bit of character to hold them out in the second half. The Creek have got some pretty talented attackers like the Millgate boys too."
Ferguson said young back-rower Cody Byrne was outstanding and won the Cowboys' players' player award.
"Cody killed us," Tickle said. "He's only about 60kg playing in the back-row but he excelled."
"Yeah the conditions were atrocious but we had our opportunities, just couldn't close them out," he added.
He thought Harlee and Isaah Millgate were outstanding for the Magpies while Sam Tickle had a good debut on the wing.
"We played well in patches, just couldn't finish it off," he concluded.
Werris Creek play Gunnedah at home this Saturday while Dungowan hosts Moree on Saturday.
