SEVERAL roads were declared no-go zones in and around Tamworth on Friday after heavy downpours hit the city overnight.

Tamworth Regional Council and police shut seven roads, mostly usual hot spots, as water swallowed the roadways.
Wallamore Road, near Bass Street, was shut near Taminda, as well as Warral Road at Impala Estate and also at the duck under.
Whitehouse Lane and Burgmanns Lane - both off the New England Highway - on the southern edge of Tamworth were also closed on Friday morning as water started to creep across the roads from the swollen Goonoo Goonoo Creek.

That water eventually flows into the Peel River, near Locks Lane and Scott Road in the city.
By midday, council was also forced to close the Duri Dungowan Road and Kia Ora Lane after the nearby creeks overflowed.
Council said staff would continue to monitor the situation and provide updates online for motorists.
The SES warns motorists never to drive through flooded roads.
