THE ROAD to international exports is a step closer to completion as construction starts on a crucial aspect of Tamworth's Global Gateway Park.

An access road will allow freight to be transferred from truck to train which can then go on to two of the state's biggest ports, Botany and Newcastle.
The infrastructure is essential for the terminal to serve its purpose, Tamworth Regional Council (TRC) mayor Col Murray said.
"Facilities which enable this type of freight transfer are few and far between in regional NSW and will provide a point of difference for the park," he said.
"The Intermodal Access Road will provide the necessary access needed to make the terminal functional."
The Sydney-CBD sized park is poised to become one of the biggest logistics hubs in regional Australia.

Construction of the road is expected to be finished in October 2021. Cr Murray said the precinct is central to Blueprint 100.
"These multi-million dollar infrastructure projects will help bring new residents to our city by creating new industry and jobs," he said.
