The Women's Country Championships will again be played under a tackle format while there's a change in the men's competition.

The NSW Rugby League Country Championships will return to an open-age format in 2021 after being under 23s for the past four seasons.

The championships are set to be played on the weekends of February 27-28 and March 6-7 with a draw still to be released.

Mick Schmiedel will return as coach of the Greater Northern Tigers women's side after the 2020 season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Tigers were flying high at that point with two wins from two matches and Schmiedel said he was aiming for a semi-final berth again.

"Us and Monaro were undefeated but we had a better for and against," he said of the 2020 campaign.

"There's unfinished business from my point of view and we're keen to go around again."

Schmiedel said the Tigers had a bit of work to do in the new year. "We're under-prepared compared to last year," he said.

"This time last year we'd had quite a few sessions. They'd been playing in 9s and 11s fo the girls were playing a bit of footy. We'd had a few training sessions but we're in the same position as everyone else."

Greater Northern are calling on players to put their name forward for both sides.

This can be done via an online form which has a deadline of January 15.
