The Benchwarmers were coming off their inaugural season in the 19/20 softball competition where they struggled for numbers.
They had the bare nine players registered and were caught short most weeks. They often relied on players from United Softball Club to make up the numbers.

"It was like a standard Saturday thing, they'd call and say 'how many do you need?'," Nicholas said.
So, wanting 14 players for the current season, The Benchwarmers put the call out under their original premise: no experience necessary, just for fun, laughs and fitness.
"To be honest, we just hoped we'd get 14 for one team," Nicholas said.
"That was the hope but we doubled that.
"Last year we had no uniform or anything like that. A bit of old gear where as this year we've got five sponsors, club shirts made up, we fundraise. We do so much and it's made a huge difference to the morale of people as well."
Nicholas doesn't want to stop now, either.
The inclusion of the two Benchwarmers teams has saw the softball competition swell from four teams to six teams and Nicholas plans to go on another recruiting drive next year.
"It certainly is," Nicholas said when asked if she planned to grow The Benchwarmers even more.
"When I grew up in Tamworth 20 years ago, it [softball] was a massive sport and we had a huge competition here.
"We want to be able to build the sport back up and recruit under the premise of wanting to have a bit of fun and fitness. We're happy to continue grow the club on that basis."
The club isn't the only thing that's growing.
Nicholas said the players - some who have no or little experience - were continually learning.
"Last week, Benchwarmers Black got their first win of the season," she said.
"It was exciting. Every week our players improve out of sight.
"We're all very supportive of one another."
The Benchwarmers - Black and Green - faced off for the second time this season on Saturday. The Green team got the chocolates but that's not what it's about, Nicholas said.
"That was our first game against each other with our uniforms. We had a barbecue and a raffle. We're like a big family," she said.
Nicholas said a good starting point for anyone wanting a taste of softball was the mixed competition.
"For anyone interested, there's a social competition that's mixed on a Wednesday night," Nicholas said.
"It's starting back up in February when the season goes back."
