At Guyra, the funding will go towards replacing the old timber yards and loading races with steel, as well as a complete refurbishment of the site's amenities block and kiosk.
Meanwhile, the funds will also go to helping Armidale replace and extend the existing cattle holding yards, install new cattle weighing scales, increase onsite parking and refurbish the site's amenities and office facilities.
New England Associated Agents president Sam Sewell said the funding benefit everyone in the local industry.
"The upgrades will mean livestock throughput will be greater, employment will be greater and it should be a win - win for everyone in that respect," Mr Sewell said.
New England MP Barnaby Joyce said the funding reflected the government's support of the agricultral sector.
"On the back of upgrading access to the Tamworth saleyards, the rebuild of the Inverell saleyards, and the Scone saleyards redevelopment, the Federal Government is now contributing $2,499,000 for the Armidale and Guyra saleyards.
"I like to run on programs across the whole of the electorate whether it's tennis courts, town halls or dams," Mr Joyce said.
"Saleyards are part of that program
"They are instrumental in getting money out of the paddock and into the shops of our New England towns."
