The 50-year-old man had to be rescued from his car after it collided with a tree on Tingha Road.
He was stabilised by the Helicopter Critical Care Medical Team.
Due to the nature of his traumatic injuries, the man had to be placed into a induced coma.
He was flown directly to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition.

Emergency services are currently working to free a man trapped in a vehicle which collided with a tree near Inverell.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was sent to Tingha Road around 2pm by NSW Ambulance after reports of a single car crash.
Reports coming from the scene outline a 50-year-old man is trapped within the vehicle, suffering serious head and leg injuries.
Local Ambulance Paramedics and Emergency Services are currently on scene treating him while working to free him from the wreckage.
