21-year-old man critically injured in Tamworth Skate Park accident back in Tamworth hospital and recovering

Blade Orme spent the days after his accident fighting for life in the Intensive Care Unit of the Newcastle hospital, but is now on the long road to recovery.

An ambulance brought Mr Orme home to Tamworth on Friday afternoon, where he remains in hospital.

Mr Orme's mother Meagan Moffat told the Leader being back in town was a positive sign and a step toward her son being able to go home to his own bed.

"The main thing is we're home, we're physically here and that's perked him up a bit," she said. "It was very exciting."

Mr Orme was waiting to see doctors on Monday to find out if he could move to the hospital's rehabilitation area.

The 21-year-old was riding his bike with friends at Tamworth Skate Park on the night of August 28, when he fell off in the steep bowl and suffered severe head injuries.

He was airlifted to Newcastle, where he underwent brain surgery.

Mr Orme wasn't wearing a helmet when the crash happened, which is something he and his mates won't ever risk again.

"Blade is well aware that's the reason he is the way he is ... it's scared his mates enough too, that they've gone and bought new helmets or dusted off old ones," Ms Moffat said.

She said her son is keen to get back on the bike one day, but has a lot of recovering to do.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for the Tamworth man, and has raised more than $2700 to help him and his family through this tough time.
