Another 20 spot fires were sparked in Thursday night's storms that hammered the New England North West region.
Those lightning strikes have started six additional fires that already stretched RFS volunteer crews now have to control.
What makes it tough is that a number of them are in inaccessible country, Tamworth and Liverpool Plains District RFS Incident Controller Corey Philip said.
"We had a number of new ignitions at Moore Creek and further north; we're trying to contain one at Goat Mountain with a dozer," he said.
Where crews have visibility, blazes have been attacked from the air with fixed-wing aircraft or helicopters.
But with resources under pressure the good news is the weather won't impact Tamworth as badly as it's expected to down south at the weekend. There's still a very high fire danger but winds will be lighter at 15 to 20 kilometres an hour.
A scorcher is predicted for Saturday at 41 degrees, with less wind fires won't get the long runs they have been, Mr Philip said.
"If the temperature is high and humidity is about 15 to 20 per cent without wind, the fire danger should be easier to control," he said.
The Pearson's Trail fire complex is still causing firefighters the most grief.

The issue is primarily in the southern section towards Hanging Rock at the bottom end of the Nundle State Forest.
A Strike Team from Castlereagh, including Coonabarabran and Gilgandra, has provided welcome relief to local crews who have been at the scene for the last three days.

The fire isn't predicted to spread into Hanging Rock at the weekend but there will be plenty of smoke about.
If the fire breaks containment lines there are fall back lines established.
Firefighters will use the recent rainfall as an opportunity to backburn on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights if conditions hold.
