A blaze at Pearson's Trail and another up towards Retreat have given firefighters grief with weather conditions expected to deteriorate on New Year's Eve.
High temperatures, gusty winds and thunderstorms will increase fire danger, Tamworth area incident controller Corey Philip said.
"If the thunderstorms happen it's likely we'll see new fires start in the area," he said. "The general advice to the public is to monitor conditions, if a new fire starts we need to know about it so we can get on top of it early. "That means we can minimise the fire's spread and stop it becoming a longer campaign."
The blaze at Retreat has burned for three weeks, it has breached containment lines on the western side.
Residents are aware and firefighters hope to have it under control by the end of the week.
