A high-visibility police operation was conducted in areas of Werris Creek and Quirindi on Thursday as police work to stamp out crime in rural communities.

Operation Wagonwheel 2019 targeted antisocial behaviour, drug and traffic enforcement, and general compliance in the two areas during the one-day operation.
Officers attached to Oxley Police District searched seven people, two vehicles, issued 10 traffic infringements, made nine bail compliance checks and executed two outstanding warrants.

Police also conducted 26 random drug tests, made 16 apprehended domestic violence order (ADVO) compliance checks, and conducted four business inspections.
In the afternoon, officers attended a motel at Quirindi following reports of suspicious activity occurring within a room of the facility.
Police spoke with the female occupant of the room before conducting a search for illegal items. During the search, police located ammunition.
About 6.15pm, police returned to the location and spoke with a 36-year-old man who was charged with possess ammunition without holding a licence.
He was issued a field court attendance notice to appear before Quirindi Local Court in mid-November.
