A man has been charged after shots were allegedly fired during an incident in the village of Pilliga.

About 3pm yesterday, officers with Oxley Police District went to a home after receiving reports a firearm had been discharged during an altercation.
It is alleged two men, aged 44 and 20, were drinking at the home and became involved in a physical altercation after the older one fired several shots in the house.

During the struggle, it is alleged, the younger man was struck to the head and bitten on the hand.
Police from Pilliga, Wee Waa and Narrabri went to the scene and established a perimeter around the house.
About 5.40pm, the 44-year-old man allegedly drove from the home.
He was intercepted and arrested by police.
They seized a rifle from the vehicle and set up a crime scene at the home.
The man was taken to Narrabri Police Station and charged with eight offences:
- Use offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence
- Assault occasioning actual bodily harm
- Possess unauthorised firearm
- Use, supply, acquire or possess defaced firearm
- Fire firearm manner likely injure persons/property
- Not keep firearm safely
- Possess ammunition without holding licence
- Drive with high range PCA (second offence)
He was refused bail and was set to appear before Inverell Local Court today.
