In a multi-million partnership with two other companies, the Tamworth shopping centre's 800 solar panels are expected to be fully installed by July and will produce enough energy to power 28 homes.
Centre manager Mitchell Phelps said the solar panels would help reach Charter Hall's short-term sustainability targets and contribute towards its longer-term aspirations of net-zero emissions.
"We will work with our partners to produce solar energy from our centre rooftop at a fixed rate," Mr Phelps said.
"This long-term project will enable ongoing competitive market rates in a volatile electricity market to remain price competitive for the local community and our tenant customers."
Two years ago, Tamworth's Centrepoint installed 400 solar panels on its roof, a move that would save more than $20,000 on electricity bills each year.
