A THIRSTY man who stole a packet of Winfield Blue cigarettes and a 750ml Dare iced coffee from a servo armed with a knife has pleaded guilty in court.

David George Thompson, 42, walked into the Caltex service station off Marius Street just before 3:30am on January 13.
Once inside, Thompson threatened the employee behind the counter armed with a knife, demanding the espresso milk and cigarettes.
Thompson appeared in Tamworth District Court via video link on Friday.

DPP solicitor Max Dixon handed the indictment up to Judge Jeffery McLennan to read out the charges for Thompson's arraignment.
"Your solicitor is here to safeguard your interests," Judge Jeffery McLennan said.
"David George Thompson, you stand charged that on January 13 in Tamworth you did rob [victim's name retracted] of one packet of Winfield Blue cigarettes and one 750ml Dare iced coffee milk while armed with an offensive weapon."
"Guilty," Thompson replied.
The offender didn't make it far before he was arrested by police just minutes after he robbed the service station.

Thompson was captured on CCTV as he fled the scene and was found by police near the Gipps Street fields after he crossed the Bicentennial Park bridge.
Defence solicitor Rae Parker made an application to have the sentence adjourned while she put together reports on behalf of Thompson.
The matter will be mentioned again in August, bail was not applied for and was formally refused.
