The QJC’s annual Cup, won last year by Armidale-trained Evangelist, ridden by Lea Selby, is being run again on Friday, February 15.
A Cup Calcutta will be held at the Quirindi RSL on Thursday, February 14, with auctioneer and racecaller Kim Stewart the host of a function – timed for a 6pm start.
“Kim Stewart has been here such a long time, been here forever,” QJC secretary manager Ted Wilkinson said.
“I’ve got a feeling he started calling here in the early 70s but whenever he did start he has been doing it a long, long time for us. He has a great voice and is just as accurate as anyone.”

His longevity is matched by sponsors Akubra, who first sponsored the 1988 Cup and have been there ever since, long and strong for the club in a unique supporting and sponsorship role.
Once again the QJC will be supporting the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service as its charity on the day with 10 per cent of the Calcutta pool going to the service.
The after party, featuring the Colt Seavers Band, will be held at the jockey club. Tickets are $60 a head.
They day will include a group from Lake Macquarie, Wilkinson said.
“They have a party coming up on the train, stopping for a couple of days,” he said, adding: “We also have The Tragics coming back. They are a group of punters and racegoers who come every year.
“They are all members of the club, too, but stay at the Imperial Hotel and have a great time. They also sponsor a race and have a ribbon made up every year to give to the race winner.”
