Water NSW listed Chaffey at 36.8 per cent capacity on Monday morning, which is less than two per cent off Tamworth Regional Council’s trigger for enforcing tougher restrictions in the city.
It means there is about 1800 megalitres to be used before level two comes into effect.

Level one restrictions have been in effect for residents in Tamworth, Moonbi and Kootingal since Monday, January 14.
When the measures were rolled out by council, water director Bruce Logan said people connected to the city supply had to essentially halve their usage.
He hoped the restrictions would be able to reduce the city’s daily consumption to 20 to 25 megalitres per day.
In previous weeks, daily water consumption in Tamworth was recorded at 39 megalitres.
Mr Logan will address the media at 10am this morning.
Once council enforces level two restrictions, the following rules come into effect:
- Sprinklers, sprays, microjet sprays and fixed hoses cannot be used.
- Hand-held hoses and sub-surface dripper systems can be used for two hours only per day from 6pm to 8pm Daylight Saving Time.
- Vehicles can only be washed with a hand-held hose, with a trigger nozzle attached, between 6pm to 8pm Daylight Saving Time, but a bucket can be used any time.
- No washdown of hard surfaces unless using a high-pressure cleaner.
- Pools can be topped up, but council permission is required if capacity is above 5 kilolitres.
- Recycled, greywater and rainwater can be used only from tanks not connected to the treated supply – rainwater tanks must be stand-alone and not able to be switched to the treated supply.
