Francis’ side bowled first and kept Gunnedah to 7-197 from their 50 overs.
Karl Triebe and Charlie White picked up two wickets each with Sam Uphill and Francis collecting one each as well as Matt Jackson earning a run out.
“When we turned up and said we were bowling first and kept them to 197, I thought that was pretty good,” Francis said.
“It was a fairly slow outfield but I still thought the deck was very good.
“Charlie White bowled really well for us in his bowling performance.”
With the bat, Armidale couldn’t mount much of a case.
They managed just 106 before the final wicket fell with Jackson the leading run scorer on 27.
“Our batting performance let us down a little bit,” Francis said.
“I thought we could have really pushed to get that score on Sunday.
“We showed our conditioning a little bit. It was warm out there and we aren't used to it which probably didn't hold us in good stead.
“We got out in some silly ways and gave away some cheap wickets and you can't do that in rep cricket otherwise you get found out in the back end of the innings, which is sort of what happened.”
Francis believes the representative squad can learn from their efforts in Gunnedah.
“We were probably a bit lacklustre in the field from the get-go and weren't diligent with the bat so there is still room for improvement,” he said.
“I still think we are not too far off there in all honestly.
“20 or 30 runs in the field, 20 or 30 with the bat and she's a lot closer.”
The final round of the War Veteran’s Cup will take place on February 10 with Armidale at home to Narrabri.
“We will have a few out in the next one against Narrabri, I know that for a fact so we will see what we come up with,” Francis said.
“Myself, Jacko and Uppy are all out for that game but there might be others available because it is in Armidale.
“We were missing Cameron [Ashe], Clash [Clarrie Moran] who scored the majority of our runs in the last game, Bails [Matt Baillie] so if you put those three back in the strength of the side goes up another notch again.”
