POOR management at Manilla Multipurpose Service is to blame for discontent among nurses, Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson said.
Nurses stand by their request for mandated patient to staff ratios to deal with overwhelming demand.
“For a period they’ve had some management issues so that’s created some uncertainty for nurses,” Mr Anderson said.
“Nurses need to be able to know that they are supported, they need the nurse numbers to back them up on the wards.”
Mr Anderson said he will take the nurses’ concerns to the Minister for Health.
Manilla MPS has 56 beds and that includes a specialised aged-care unit.
Patients have been receiving their medication late, and are being put to bed late as a result of under-staffing, Manilla nurse Tanya Rogers said.
“Mr Anderson did listen to our concerns, but he was really focused on a management point of view,” she said.
“He declined signing a pledge because currently he doesn’t feel ratios are the answer, he thinks management is where the issues are.”
