On the weekend, riders from all over the state met in Kootingal for a fundraising event. Organisers said about 185 people registered for the ride into Tamworth.
“There were riders from ten chapters across NSW and even a couple from Queensland,” Wollongong-based regional director of the Harley Owners Groups for NSW and ACT, Ken McDonald said.
“It was just something to recognise that farmers are the backbone of this country and (they) are really struggling at the moment and we wanted to help.”
The group came up with the idea of a fundraising ride at their monthly meeting.

“Harley Davidson Australia was a big support,” Mr McDonald said. “They gave us a bunch of merchandise for the auctions and raffles.”
Money was also raised through registrations for the event.

“Not only was it an enjoyable event, but it was also one that was quite successful,” Mr McDonald said. “It’s a nice feeling to go away and do good things as a group for those that need support.”
Although the final total is still to be confirmed, Mr McDonald estimated they had raised more than $13,000.
A cheque for $11,000 has already been passed onto the Wanthella branch of the Country Women’s Association (CWA) for their drought relief fund.
“Its more about support and not handouts,” Mr McDonald said. “The CWA are pretty good with the way they distribute their funds. They do it in a dignified way.”
“We’d also like to thank Andrew Yeo from the Kootingal Hotel and the Pub Group for their support.”
