A TEENAGE girl was recovering in hospital on Monday after her car collided with a truck in Tamworth.

About 12.20am on Monday, the 19-year-old was behind the wheel of Mazda sedan on Woodside Road in East Tamworth.
Police said preliminary investigations revealed the teen pulled out on the New England Highway, or Armidale Road, into the path of an oncoming B-double.
Police said the semi-trailer driver tried to brake to avoid the car, but struck the sedan.
The woman was trapped in the car for a short time before she was freed by rescue personnel.

She was taken to Tamworth hospital and police said she was in a serious but stable condition.
The truck driver wasn’t physically injured but was treated for shock at the scene.
The crash blocked the highway in both directions for several hours. Motorists were diverted around the scene via Scott Road, Goonoo Goonoo, Calala and onto O’Brien’s Lane out to Nemingha.
The road reopened about dawn.
Police said investigations into the crash are continuing and no charges ave been laid.
