From strictly ballroom to the French tango, 10 Tamworth locals are getting in as much practise as possible before their big night at Town Hall on Saturday, June 23.
Tamworth Cancer Council spokeswoman Kate Dubois said Tamworth Stars Dance for Cancer had become one of the organisation’s flagship fundraising events.
“We really want people to understand that the funds support local services, and help local Tamworth people in their time of greatest need,” Ms Dubois said.
“Everyone is impacted by cancer in someway to some degree. We all know someone or have heard a tragic story from some close about losing someone to cancer.
“Whatever we can do to make that horrible time a little bit easier is a very important part of what we do here at Cancer Council.”
The money raised will go towards keeping the doors open at Tamworth hospital’s Inala House, which is a free home away from home for cancer patients and their carers travelling to receive treatment.
“It’s an already stressful situation, so Inala House aims to relieve some of that financial burden,” Ms Dubois said.
It will also help support Cancer Council’s transport-to-treatment service.
Ms Dubious said on top of the dancing, the stars would be out in the community fundraising.
“If you see the stars out fundraising, get behind them, because they’re putting themselves out there and stepping outside of their comfort zone for a great cause,” she said.
Tamworth’s stars include PRD Nationwide’s Rebecca Creighton Clarke and Sarah Mayo-Cowen, Oxley High School’s Ryan Saban, Joblink Plus’ Adam Green and Samantha Crebert from Joblink Plus, Cloudwize’s Daniel Sherwood, Stephanie Cameron from East West Enviro Ag, Curves’ Sue Cowley, Caleb Doughty from Compass/Drivertrain and The Leader’s own Jamieson Murphy.
Tickets are $95 and go on sale in early May.
