Almost 200 kids representing Tamworth Junior Oztag are in Coffs Harbour contesting the state cup.
The three-day event commenced on Friday, with all 17 Tamworth sides in action.
In an upset, the 16-years boys side beat Cronulla 4-2 in their first match, before losing 6-5 to the ACT.

“That age group always struggles to get numbers, and they got a team together, finally,” said Katrina Davis, of Tamworth Junior Oztag. “It was nice to see them have a win in their first game.
“We weren’t sure how they’d go because they haven’t played state before. They beat Cronulla, which is really surprising because Cronulla are really strong.”
For the other Tamworth teams, as of late afternoon the nine-years girls had one win and a loss; the nine-years boys had lost three matches, as had the 11-years boys; the 11-years girls had a win, a draw and a loss; the 12-years girls had three losses; the 13-years girls had a win and two losses; the 13-years boys and 14-years girls had both lost three games; the 15-year girls had two wins; the 16-years boys had a win; the 17-years boys had one loss; and the 17-years girls had a win and a loss.
