While Matt Witson and Gary Sinclair have been wearing pink to work on Friday’s for sometime, the campaign launched on facebook late last year and has been gaining momentum ever since.
Initially the pair ‘pinked up’ in solidarity for their respective wives, who have both battled, and now beaten breast cancer, but they didn’t want to just stop there.
The campaign is a simple reminder that partners are also responsible for their spouses health, and urges men to remind their wives to do a monthly check and look for changes themselves in order to improve early diagnosis and intervention.
“The pink shirts are also a conversation starter,” Mr Sinclair said.
“If someone mentions your pink shirt you show them the badge and say I have the right to wear this, and by the way when was the last time you checked your partner.”
“We really want partners to know more about breast cancer diagnosis.”
Since the social media launch the movement has taken off, with partners Hip Pocket Workwear being inundated with orders for the pink shirts, which they then monogram the logos on free of charge.
SInce then The Tamworth Hotel and the Wests Entertainment Group have also come on board in support.
“We thought it might be popular because it is so easy, but we never expected it to grow this quickly,” Mr Sinclair said.
“There are a lot of charities out there that ask for money, we are not fundraising, we only want to raise awareness.”
The launch is at The Tamworth on February 16 at 4pm.
“It’s basically a get together in our shirts to let people know what is going on,” Mr Sinclair said.
