Emergency services were first called to the scene at a property near Rangari Road, Boggabri at about midnight on January 15.
The fire is currently being treated as suspicious. It is the third hay stack fire in Narrabri shire in as many months.
Barwon Inspector Robert Dunne told Fairfax Media the fire was the second at the property since November.
“The property also had a fire back in November, which at the time wasn’t treated as suspicious but in light of recent events will be re-examined,” Inspector Dunne said.
“Following the advice of a fire investigator we are now treating this fire as suspicious and will investigate it accordingly.”
Inspector Dunne said the fire had the potential to be a bushfire risk.
“As well as being a significant loss of income and stock feed the fires also pose a serious bushfire risk.”
Investigations into the fires are continuing with authorities appealing for anyone who saw suspicious activity in the vicinity of Rangari Road to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333000.
Rural Fire Service (RFS) NSW have issued a total fire ban for the North West Slopes and Plains including Gunnedah, Gwydir, Inverell, Liverpool Plains, Tamworth for Friday January 19 due to forecast hot weather and conditions.
