There were fear the wet weather would put a dampener on the races and keep crowd numbers down, but the rain stayed away and the sun eventually crept out, as did the crowd.
The champagne was flowing as the thoroughbreds hit their straps on track and there was some fierce competition for the fashions on the field, with both the men and the ladies frocking-up for the occasion.
The jockey club introduced a new ticket pre-purchase and queuing system for the public bar this year, which is designed to reduce waiting times, so give race-goers more time to enjoy the day.
The jockey club said it was a day to remember for all involved.
