There were plenty of waves, greeting and wishes of support from residents, and despite the media scrum following his every step, locals weren’t afraid to stop the former Deputy Prime Minister for a chat, as he took a stroll down Peel Street.
He spruiked the benefits of “getting the budget back in line” to a table of retirees enjoying a morning coffee, while he talked rugby with a local Welsh fan (Mr Joyce made it clear supported the Wallabies, not the All Blacks).
Mr Joyce’s campaign office is up and running at 247 Peel Street, just a few doors down from his old electorate office.
He encouraged anyone with concerns or issues they’d like to discuss to drop by.
