Mr Mahony bought the pharmacy in 1985 and has been a trusted voice on the health front in Manilla, Tamworth and Moree ever since.
He has been involved in the pharmaceutical industry for over 40 years and founded the Remote and Isolated Pharmacists Association of Australia in 1987, serving as the groups president for ten years.
Mr Mahony said, while retired, he would still be involved in the Tamworth and Moree businesses.
I am anxious but happy at the same time, he said.
Long time customer David Clayton said Mr Mahony had been his family pharmacist for 30 years and he would miss him.
He is part of the family he has looked after us well, and we wish him luck in his new adventures, he said.
The new owners, Mr Zabair Khan and his wife Urooj, have worked with Mr Mahony in Tamworth since 2009 and said they are very excited to take this next big step.
