A truck heading north on Goonoo Goonoo Rd was notified over radio by another driver that smoke was coming from the vehicle’s rear wheels about 4am.
The driver pulled over and unhooked the prime mover from the trailer, but the fire destroyed 25 per cent of the load, including hospital supplies, paint thinners and alcohol.
Fire crews contained the blaze before it took hold of hazardous materials. The road was re-opened by about 8.30am.
