With no respite in sight over the next week, citizens are doing anything they can to stay cool this summer.
As neighbours Moree continue to smash heat records after suffering through an almost unbearable 38 days straight of temperatures above 35 heading into Friday, Tamworth is also in the midst of setting a record of their own as Friday marks 53 days of temperatures above 30 degrees.
And while that is bad news for residents and even worse news for the local Fire Service, who are on high alert, for air conditioning specialists and salesmen it means the tills are also running hot.
Tamworth air conditioning specialists KL Air and Garlicks have been run off their feet over the past few weeks, and the breaks in the weather are causing just as many problems as the sweltering heat.
Garlick’s Heating and Cooling Specialists’s Corry Taylor said that she has sent out twice as many invoices for January this year than she did for the same month last year.
“We have been very busy both repairing and selling air conditioners,” Mrs Taylor said. The storms are also causing power surges and knocking out air conditioners. We are really stretched to the limits which is great for us but it is a shame to see people that are going without or waiting to get parts or repairs.”
Friday and Saturday is forecast to be 39 degrees, rising into 40 on Sunday before 41 is expected on Monday.
