In a renewed push for vigilance, senior officials have urged business owners to install security cameras and appropriate measures, to ensure they aren’t the next victims.
Their calls follow a break-in at the Tudor Hotel on New Year’s Day, where a charity barrel was allegedly stolen.
Oxley Local Area Command crime manager Chief Inspector Phil O’Reilly said, in the last week, the City Sider Motel was broken into on Marius St, where a thief kicked in a door and stole cash.
“He was wearing a bandanna around his face, tracksuit pants, joggers and a long sleeve top. He was tall, of a thin build and with short brown hair, ” Chief Inspector O’Reilly said.
The Tamworth Aero Club was also the target of an attempted break in, along with the Best Western Motel on Goonoo Goonoo Rd. A window was damaged at the Tamworth City Hotel on Tuesday, while a take away business on Goonoo Goonoo Rd was also targeted.
“Two suspects stole cash from The Roydons Motel, early on January 3,” he said.
“We are of course looking at these collectively because of their location in the CBD and on Goonoo Goonoo Rd.
“In several of those break-ins cash has been stolen. We of course remind business owners to be mindful about their business security.
“If possible, money should be kept in safes. Our crime management unit is available to provide advice about CCTV to anyone who hasn’t got it installed and ensure they are mindful about the placement of efficient lighting and the camera placement, so the footage can be used for evidence.”
Inspector O’Reilly has urged anyone with information on any of the incidents to contact Tamworth Police Station.
He said police had been working on identifying suspects.
“We hope to make some further arrests in the near future,” he said.
