A recent audit of Tamworth trash found 26.7 per cent of items ending up at local landfill were able to be recycled.
“A lot of the confusion and mistakes are made around plastics,” council sustainability coordinator Tracey Carr said.
To clear up any lingering confusion, council has a display in Ray Walsh House of common items and their recyclable status.
Ms Carr said there wasn’t an ideal figure but said any possible material kept out of landfill would be great..
She also said about nine to 11 per cent of curbside recycling collection can’t be reprocessed and wants the number to come down to five per cent.
