James Walmsley and Madelaine Jurd from Tamworth, Pieter ten Brink from Quirindi and Issac Allen from Narrabri will represent TAFE New England at the WorldSkills Australia National Competition.
The students will compete in fields including carpentry, commercial cookery, automotive electrical and automotive mechanical among their peers from institutes across the nation.
John Michael, acting Institute director, wished the students well.
“WorldSkills provides students with a platform to test their skills, overcome nerves and to use their creativity,” he said.
“As a nation, we need to continue to strive for skills and excellence, celebrate achievements in the vocational education and training sector and work together to raise awareness of the opportunities that are available in a trade or skills based career.”
TAFE New England teachers, Cameron Falzon and Karen Bliss-Cook will also represent the Institute by judging the cookery and tourism components of the competition, respectively.
The event will feature 60 skills competitions, an in-house career expo and a range of fun and interactive activities.
Stand-out national medalists from these categories may be selected to represent Australia as a “Skillaroo” at the 44th WorldSkills Competition to be held in Abu Dhabi in 2017.
