After a week of vote-counting five new faces were added to Walcha Council Rachel Wellings, Peter Blomfield, Eric Noakes, Jen Kealey and Scott Kermode.
Re-elected Cr Kevin Ferrier said he wasn’t surprised by the results, but he wasn’t confident of his reelection either.
“Ward D was probably the hardest to predict because there were four candidates, I knew both Donna (Garrad) and Steve( McCoy) would poll well so it was really wait and see. I am pleased to be reelected as we have unfinished business and while everyone has their agenda for what Council should focus on I do not.
Fellow re-elected Cr Clint Lyon said he believes the issue of poor mobile and internet services in the Shire should be a top priority for council to focus on along with a continued focus on roads and delivering existing council services.
New face Eric Noakes said he was hopeful but never quite confident he would be elected. “I think the priority for Council is to ensure we have a strong financial position and get our infrastructure up to date so that if the State Government attempts further amalgamation we have our house in order.
Three existing councillors – Colleen Fuller, Owen Hasler and Gae Swain – were voted back in following the September 10 local government election.
