Snow was reported at Hanging Rock, Mt Kaputar, Niangala and Walcha – and some other places in between – and in Tamworth the day didn’t get out of single figures.
And more weather records tumbled yesterday in Tamworth, not just with the mercury dropping down so that most of the north shivered everywhere, but also with the rainfall figures shattering all-time records.
Just before 6.30amyesterday, Tamworth weather records that had stood for nearly 100 years were broken – with a June rainfall figure that has set a new benchmark in the 140 years that weather records have been kept in Tamworth.
Tamworth tipped the rain gauges at just shy of 170mm by 9am, eclipsing the wettest June we’d seen since the 166.6mm Tamworth recorded back in 1920.
The new highwater mark is the biggest June rain since 1876 saw the first official measures taken.
