Detectives have been called in to investigate the death of a young man at the University of New England on Wednesday.
Emergency services were called to Austin College on the Armidale campus just after 3pm after reports a man had died.
A crime scene was set up at the college which usually accommodates 288 students during the academic term.
A New England police spokesperson told Fairfax Media it was too early to tell what had happened, but confirmed a young male had died.
"A crime scene has been established and detectives are on scene," a police spokesperson confirmed.
"Crime scene officers will be attending to conduct an examination.
A report will now be prepared for the coroner, police said.
The University issued a statement on Wednesday afternoon confirming it was cooperating with investigating police.
"The University of New England can confirm that there has been a death on campus at one of the university's colleges," the spokesperson confirmed.
"The University's first priority is to provide support to the student's family, and the University's students and staff."
NSW Ambulance confirmed paramedics were called to a location at the University of New England at 3pm on Wednesday but said it was police matter and they were unable to make any further comment.
