For decades Lyn Windsor has stood by husband Tony as he pursued his political career and the interests of his electorate.
And yesterday was no different, as Mrs Windsor officially opened the independent candidate’s Tamworth office in White St.
“It’s like putting on an old pair of slippers,” Mrs Windsor said as she addressed a crowd of supporters yesterday morning.
Flanked by daughter Kate, daughter-in-law Monique and grandchildren Ava and Jock, Mrs Windsor said her husband’s efforts were for people such as her children and grandchildren and to shape their futures.
Longtime Windsor camp supporter Peter Wakeford assisted Mrs Windsor in cutting the official ribbon, the first of many openings of campaign offices to come.
“Over all the years, Lyn has stuck by us and stuck to the electorate too. She has always encouraged me,” Mr Windsor said.
In addition to Mrs Windsor, Mr Windsor’s old band of supporters have reunited to see him through the next month or so of campaigning.
Among them is long time adviser and mate Graham Nuttall, who returned from Europe to throw his support behind the campaign.
There’s also former adviser John Clements, along with Sandy York, Tim Duddy and councillor Helen Tickle.
“We’ve got a really good back room full of really committed people.” Mr Windsor said.
“I think in a sense, the campaign really started on Monday, even though we’ve been working very hard and travelling. We’ve done 20 community meetings so far.
“We’ve been on the road but I think people are starting to engage from here on and our television ads have gone out.”
Despite a deputy prime minister and sitting member as his biggest rival, Mr Windsor said he believed the seat was winnable.
“I have no doubt about that,” he said.
“It’s a highly contestable seat and contestable seats are very good for electorates and very good for the people.
“Obviously Barnaby Joyce has got the resources of government to throw at it. The resource you win with isn’t money and it isn’t government, it’s people.
“And we’re getting a lot of support right across the board.”
