The ComDiab program has been created by the Australian Diabetes Council and will be delivered in Inverell, Ashford, Delungra, Bundarra, Warialda and Bingara.
Inverell Community Health nurse Rhonda Cox said the sessions would give people with newly-diagnosed Type 2 diabetes a good introduction to management and refresh the knowledge of those who had had it for a while.
“Each participant will be asked to attend two sessions,” Mrs Cox said.
“The first session provides an overview of diabetes including signs and symptoms, risk factors for developing Type 2 diabetes and potential complications .
“The second session provides information on management of diabetes, including information on healthy eating, exercise, medications and blood glucose monitoring.”
The sessions will be held in Inverell on October 9 and 23; Ashford on October 10 and 24; Delungra on October 8 and 22; and Bundarra on October 23 and 30.
Dates for the Warialda and Bingara sessions will be confirmed soon.
Bookings are limited to 10 people per session.
