Interest has been expressed in a creating a venue that makes the most of the panoramic view, however a proposal has yet to be put forward.
Councillor Juanita Wilson told a council meeting Tamworth was ready for such a development.
“I’ve always held the belief the lookout is an ideal site for a restaurant or something similar,” Cr Wilson said.
“The concept seems to incite enthusiasm from the community.”
While any development at the Oxley Lookout would come with “unique issues”, it would also come with “unique rewards”.
Cr Wilson said she wanted to open a conversation with the community and gauge its response to the idea.
“We want to draw people and their ideas out and give a voice to any potential feedback they may have,” she said.
“Tamworth is moving into a new era where people are looking for new dining experiences and more entertainment.
“The region is looking for things that were once only in the city, but now we’ve got the potential to supply and support some of those venues.
“You can see that in the great new dining spots that have opened up lately.”
Any development would be designed to not effect the viewing platform or its view.
“You can’t really compare it to anything else because it’s a unique concept and a unique site – nothing else like it exists and that’s what makes it so special,” Cr Wilson said.
“It would be limited only by imagination and logistics, and human nature has always been able to get around logistics.”
