For the first time Walcha hosted The Land Sydney Royal Showgirl Competition Zone 4 Finals, an event which involved a number of Walcha show committee members throughout the weekend.
Miss Walcha – Katie Hobbs joined showgirls from: Barrabra; Dorrigo; Glen Innes; Gunnedah; Guyra; Inverell; Manilla; Moree; Narrabri; Quirindi; Tamworth; Tenterfield; Walgett; Warialda and Wee Waa in an all-day competition on Saturday.
The day began with interviews at ‘Waterloo’ the home of Ross and Penny King where the girls were judged on their personality; confidence; ambition and life goals; general knowledge; rural knowledge; presentation and speech.
Following lunch at ‘Waterloo’ an afternoon tea was held at the Walcha Pioneer Cottage, for the Showgirls, their family and friends.
This was catered for by the Walcha Show Society cooking stewards.
The tables at Saturday evening’s formal dinner were decorated by floral arrangements from the Walcha Show Society horticultural members.
During the evening the Showgirls were asked to demonstrate knowledge of their local community’s current affairs as they acted as an ambassador for their town.
After a lengthy deliberation by the judges the two finalists were announced. Annabel Overell from Tenterfield and Camilla McDonald from Quirindi will continue on to the State Finals at the Sydney Royal Easter Show where they will represent all of the New England and North West of NSW.
