The racing has been magnificent as has the fashions on the field with some very well presented fillies parading before the judges.
For the punter however life has been extremely tough with many favourites performing poorly. The wet conditions of course contributed greatly to the punter’s ability to back a winner or two but then again we do not have to punt do we.
George Woodward had a mixed week with Opera Blu going down narrowly at Grafton last Friday to the well performed Miss Caitlyn. Opera Blu raced in fourth possie all the way only to go down narrowly on the line.
Later on the same program, Prize was endeavouring to emulate his stablemate but had no luck in running. Prize was shuffled back to last on the turn into the straight and did extremely well to finish third.
George then ventured on to Port Macquarie with Minimos. Minimos started favourite in the race and had to carry a huge weight on a heavy (8) track. Minimos raced back in last place with the rider taking off at the 600 and continued to make ground all the way to the line where Priscilla Schmidt pushed her mount to the limit only to see Minimos prevail.
At Wagga Jim Nivison would have been hoping for Jo Jo Girl to emulate her Randwick victory and although she finished fifth, the run was full of merit for the syndicate as Jo Jo Girl raced in eighth place all the way but put in a huge finish to finish just a length from the winner.
At Tamworth on Monday He’s Dreamin’ was carrying the hopes of the Fenwicke family and subsequently was sent out as favourite to win the event.
He’s Dreamin’ raced towards the rear of the field and the rider was having problems navigating a passage thought the field.
While all this was happening the eventual winner Mullet Man had secured a saloon passage in the straight leaving He’s Dreamin’ to try and catch up.
He’s Dreamin’ made a lot of ground late but just couldn’t make up enough ground in the run home.
