Tamworth City has been chosen to test the game that is aimed at encouraging a younger crowd to take up the game and boost numbers both on the greens and in the clubs.
City president Greg Roese said it was an exciting new prospect for the game and club.
“It takes minutes to learn and a lifetime to enjoy,” Roese said.
The new game has been rolled about by Bowls Australia and will be a simplified two bowl triples with two sets of five ends.
Players are invited to either wear flat sole shoes or go barefoot, and enjoy a frosty ale or beverage while they play.
The first competition will run for five weeks, from 6.30pm to 7.30pm, and, if extra games are needed, another round will be played.
Players are also invited to take part in the raffles while they play, with full restaurant and bar facilities available for both players, spectators and fans.
Games will be supervised by some of the experienced club players to give hints and tips and let players know the ins and outs of the game.
“It has been released in Sydney and has gone gangbusters,” Roese said.
“We are hoping we can turn it into a real social event.”
The club is hoping it gets enough numbers to play and hang around before and after for drinks and dinner, with a big enough response likely to see some live music and other entertainment come into play.
While teams of three are needed each week, players are welcome to substitute for each other, and any individual who wants a roll but doesn’t have a team or doesn’t want to play each week are also urged to turn up, with a game guaranteed.
“It is very social and very casual and should be a lot of fun,” Roese said.
Anyone interested can register online on the Bowls Australia website, pick up an entry form from the club or just turn up on Friday afternoons.
