Developers say the approval process has taken four years with the state government taking more than three years to make the decisions and Walcha Council making its determination after eight months of investigations.
The site for “EastGate Walcha”, is situated at 60E North Street adjacent to the eastern side of the showground and next door to the caravan park.
Twelve homes for the over 55s will be placed on the estate and developers say the homes have been specially designed for Walcha’s unique climate by Uniplan Group Armidale.
Three separate floor plans available to choose from and pricing expected to start from $185,000.00.
All homes will be two bedrooms with a sunroom, kitchen and dining, lounge, bathroom, laundry and carport.
Glass will be double glazed and the homes will be fitted with two air conditioners and be fully insulated.
A community centre and shed for undercover caravan storage will be on the estate and entry will be via a fully secured electric gate and intercom system.
A spokesperson for the development said construction will begin immediately using mostly local contractors and three display homes are expected to be completed within six months.
Construction of the remaining homes will be completed as they are sold.
