Operation Mantra will continue in Tamworth with extra police on patrol for the country music festival, while holiday hotspots such as dams and licensed venues will also see a police presence.
Officers have confirmed they will be focusing on public order and drunkenness to ensure everyone has a safe weekend.
Barwon Superintendent Gelina Talbot said a crackdown on alcohol-related violence and vandalism would continue to alleviate any community concerns.
“Local police regularly witness the results of persons drinking to excess and losing control of their faculties,” she said.
“Alcohol greatly increases the risk of being involved in serious incidents such as antisocial behaviour, malicious damage to property, assault including sexual assault, and fatal motor vehicle accidents.
“And Australia Day often seems to bring out the worst for alcohol-related violence and injuries.”
A high-visibility blitz will also continue on the roads as part of Operation Safe Return, with double demerits in force until midnight on Monday for all seatbelt, speeding, mobile phone and other offences.
But the main message is to play it safe, no matter where you are.
“Whilst some parts of the community seem to accept that drinking to be drunk and boorish behaviour is acceptable, it is not,” Superintendent Talbot said.
“Take the time to plan your celebrations carefully to ensure a safe and happy time for everyone, and be mindful of how your behaviour impacts on neighbours and people around you.”
